Fords in Four: Chris Hart '96

In Fords in Four, we ask a Haverford School alumnus four questions about his time at the School and about his life beyond. This month, we spoke to United Talent Agency (UTA) Partner and Co-Head of Talent Department Chris Hart '96. In his role, Hart represents both established and rising stars, and helps oversee UTA’s endorsements group, which specializes in partnering talent with top brands at the intersection of entertainment, commerce and technology. Among Hart’s distinguished clients, he represents Common, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rob Gronkowski, Nick Jonas, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Catherine Zeta Jones, Terry Crews, Kelsey Grammer, Queen Latifah, Pitbull, Ryan Seacrest, Taylor Tomlinson, Bert Kreischer and Sebastian Maniscalco. Prior to joining UTA in 2010, Hart was an agent at ICM Partners (ICM) for nine years. Before this, he began his career in the mailroom of William Morris Endeavor (WME). Hart moved to Los Angeles after graduating from George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2000. Outside of UTA, Hart is an advisor to the widely used app, Cameo. He holds a board seat on the nonprofit organizations Chrysalis Foundation and Thrive Scholars.

What are some of your fondest memories from your Haverford days?

My fondest memories were, obviously, in recess as a kid, and then I have some awesome memories from my time on the Haverford basketball and crew teams. I loved being down on the Schuylkill all the time, and I was a gym rat for basketball. The coaches were amazing—Coach McBride in basketball and then the legendary Coach Barker for crew. Some of my best friends are the boys, now men, that I met at The Haverford School.

Haverford prepared me for my path into college and outside of it. The School taught me to take a chance and to work as hard as I possibly can.

What advice would you have for a Haverford graduate hoping to join the entertainment industry?

Take a chance! The media business is wide ranging and very fun, but also hard to break into. As soon as I graduated college, I moved to Los Angeles to take that chance. My inner self, and my friends, all said I was crazy. But, I wanted to do it. I took the chance and it paid off.

What is the story behind one hard-won lesson in your career?

A good lesson to learn is to be honest and go with your gut. My gut and my intention have always helped me grow in the media business. And those are lessons I learned at Haverford—be honest and respectful. Have a certain level of decorum. Those were all things that I learned at Haverford and they have paid off well in my career.

What do you hope for the future of the entertainment industry?

I think great content and great storytelling continues to win out. People love to see new stories and true talent. And, UTA (United Talent Agency) is a leading talent agency across all verticals—musicians, athletes, actors, and authors. We represent some of the leading great talent.

I think the industry is going to continue to be super vibrant. There's an explosion of content across all these different networks.
