Fords in Four: Mike Petrakis ’09

In Fords in Four, we ask a Haverford School alumnus four questions about his time at the School and about his life beyond. This month, we spoke to Batch founder and CEO Mike Petrakis ’09. Batch, the nation’s leading party-planning platform, offers a seamless way to discover and book the best experiences in popular destinations, empowering groups to create unforgettable memories effortlessly. Under Mike’s leadership, Batch expanded to now serve three million users over 3,000 bookable experiences in more than 35 cities.

What inspired the founding of Batch and how does it work?

I’ve always loved building businesses, and I’m fascinated by how local economies evolve. A few years ago, I noticed the explosion of cities like Nashville and Scottsdale as destinations for party tourism. I thought—there’s massive energy (and spending) here, but no platform built for it. That insight was the spark for Batch.

Batch is building the Celebration Economy. We started with an app for planning bachelorette parties, and now we power all kinds of group celebrations—birthdays, reunions, guys’ and girls’ trips, bachelor parties, you name it.

For consumers, Batch is the go-to app to plan and coordinate a celebration with friends.
For small businesses, Batch is a marketing engine that connects them with high-spending party groups right at the moment they’re booking.

Today, millions of people use Batch to plan a trip, and thousands of small businesses are paying partners on the platform.

What are your goals for Batch?

To become the next-generation TripAdvisor—the place people go first to plan a group trip or celebration with friends and loved ones.

What Haverford relationships had the greatest influence on you?

My ’09 classmates—especially Ryan Lind, Ben Ware, and Christian Amabile. And teachers like Mr. Hallowell and Bryan Skelly/Mr. Heed, who were excellent cross-country coaches.

What advice would you give a Haverford student?

Don’t be afraid to do your own thing, and don’t waste energy caring what others think. We’re in a wild west era of the economy—from AI startups to boomer-owned businesses that need reinvention. There’s never been a better time to be an entrepreneur or easier access to resources to learn. Just start building.
