Fords in Four: Chris Morgan ’13

In Fords in Four, we ask a Haverford School alumnus four questions about his time at the School and about his life beyond. This month, we spoke to BIG4L's owner/ operator Chris Morgan ’13. BIG4L provides moving and hauling services in the Greater Philadelphia Area. Morgan remains active in The Haverford School community, serving on the Alumni Executive Committee (AEC) and presenting to the Black Student Union (BSU). He spoke to us about good advice and long lasting relationships.

What inspired the founding of BIG4L Logistics?

After spending the first few years of undergrad working for a production agency, I not only fell in love with the process of bringing creative strategies to life, but became enamored with the various labor operations behind the scenes—on the trade show floor.

At its core, BIG4L Logistics is a labor/service-based entity, and at our best, we complete difficult tasks and help our clients meet their needs. We chose an industry that allows us to connect with inspiring people daily, and bring life to new homes and projects, alike.

The name BIG4L was inspired by my late father, and is an abbreviation of “Big for life.” Everything we do is big: big dreams; big goals; big trucks!

What motivates your continued involvement in The Haverford School through groups such as the AEC and the BSU?

The Haverford School community has given me so much support throughout the years, I feel honored to be able to give back; it's a full circle moment. At the end of the day, I’m able to put myself in the shoes of the students, while understanding that representation matters—we need to see, hear and feel what success looks like from all avenues.

As young black alums, I believe it's our civic duty to provide leadership for the next generation of students, and in my case specifically, I’m capable of being a voice and advocate for those who aspire to break through glass ceilings.

What lasting connections did you form at The Haverford School?

Being a lifer at Haverford, I’ve been able to foster relationships that will last a lifetime: peers, faculty, coaches and now, mentees. I have gained 20+ year friendships with guys from all demographics, with whom I’ll continue to share milestones. I’ve learned from and played under mentors who have given me great direction in my career and education. And now, being an active alum, I have the opportunity to influence the next generation of students.

What lessons would you share with any aspiring entrepreneurs?

Understand your personal internal system and processes, and then look to build off of momentum. The days and weeks will be volatile, but your routine and discipline will provide some relief.

The best piece of advice I've ever received is to enjoy the current moment and be where your feet are.
