Preparing Boys for Life

New Middle School

Opened in fall 2020, The Haverford School's state-of-the-art 30,000+ square foot Middle School is purpose-built for the developmental needs of the adolescent boy and is designed to inspire learning and growth in every boy.

The $18M Middle School includes:

  • 18 advanced classrooms
  • Learning Commons
  • dynamic maker spaces
  • robotics and STEM areas
  • communal gathering places
  • designated floors for each grade level

Every boy has access to a custom-designed storage system for his belongings, particularly important as boys focus on developing strong organizational skills.

The adolescent brain goes through the second largest physiological change in human development from ages 11-14. Our learning will be designed with this in mind, providing a facility that supports Haverford’s best-for-boys pedagogy and enables our teachers to do the type of interactive, intellectually stimulating work for which Haverford is known. The Middle School is the keystone of our campus master plan, and will help us fully realize the School’s aim of preparing boys for life. Jay Greytok '83, Head of Middle School

The Middle School will be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified. It is designed using strategies aimed at improving performance across sustainability metrics and in support of the School's current initiatives.

Construction Time Lapse: June-December 2019

The new Middle School was made possible by the Character at Our Core campaign, a $50M capital and endowment campaign to advance the School’s expertise in the art and science of educating boys.

This campaign allows the School to invest in extraordinary educators, to develop inspiring spaces for every boy, to enable students from varying backgrounds to attend the School, and to develop a community of difference-makers.
