Varsity Swimming and Diving
Swimming Highlights
Overview
Swimming and diving has been a varsity sport at The Haverford School dating back to 1920. A perennial powerhouse on the main line through the 1940s, '50s, and '60s under the tutelage of legendary coach Joseph D. McQuillen, the Inter-Ac league for swimming was formalized in 1968 with Germantown Academy, Episcopal Academy, William Penn Charter, and Malvern Prep. While Haverford dominated its opponents throughout the early 1900s, with an undefeated season in 1944, the first outright Inter-Ac Championship came in 2017. That year the Fords rewrote the school and pool record board, establishing 16 of 22 records, and posted 17 NISCA All-America swims at the prestigious end of the year meet, Easterns. The Fords' most impressive recent program accomplishment was winning the Inter-Ac League Championship, along with the Easterns Championship, at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season.
