Richardson T. Merriman '67 transitions leadership of The Pennsylvania Trust Company to George C. McFarland Jr. '77

Richardson T. Merriman '67, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Pennsylvania Trust Company, announced that he will step down at the end of the year, handing the reins to George C. McFarland Jr. '77. Merriman will remain Chairman of Pennsylvania Trust and continue with the management of client relationships and client development.

"George's outstanding leadership, intellect, integrity, and dedication to client service have been critical factors in our success and will continue to support our fundamental goal of competently and compassionately serving our clients," said Merriman.

McFarland joined Pennsylvania Trust as Director of Marketing and Business Development in 1998, after a 14-year legal career. He transitioned into investment management in 1999 and became a core member of the portfolio management team. In 2005, he became Senior Vice President and served as chair of the Investment Committee. From 2009-12, McFarland directed all fiduciary services and in 2011, became an Executive Vice President and joined the Board of Directors. In 2012, he was elected President and in 2016 he became Chief Investment Officer.

McFarland is a member of The Haverford School's Board of Trustees and was inducted into the School's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016 as a member of the 1976-77 squash team.
