Varsity Lacrosse


The Haverford School's lacrosse team has a strong tradition of excellence. Team wins include:

  • National Champions, undefeated (2011, 2015)
  • Inter–Ac League Champions (1977, 1985, 1988, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017)
  • Pennsylvania State Championships (1968, 1980, 1985, 2000, 2005)
  • PA Independent School Champions (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015)

Three team members (Class of 2016) were selected for the U.S. Under-19 team. The program has produced six NCAA National Champions and three NCAA Division 1 First Team All-Americans.

Meet the Coach

John Nostrant varsity lacrosse coachHead Coach: John Nostrant

John Nostrant is head lacrosse coach at The Haverford School. As a player, Coach Nostrant was a three-time All-American midfielder at Washington College and a two-time All-Pro player for the Philadelphia Wings and the Baltimore Thunder.

Coach Nostrant has served as the head lacrosse coach at Haverford since 1991, winning more than 300 games. He has coached 36 high school All-Americans, 13 Inter-Ac title teams, four Inter-Ac tournament title teams, two state championship teams (2000 and 2005), and two undefeated national championship teams (2011 and 2015). He also served as an assistant coach for the USA U-19 world team, which won the gold medal in 2008.

Coach Nostrant moves to Gilman to coach lacrosse

John Nostrant, who has led Haverford (Pa.) for the past 28 years, will be announced as the next Gilman (Md.) head coach this week, multiple sources have told Inside Lacrosse. The Fords rebounded in the second game of a back to back against Germantown Academy. Sage Garito started and made 3 saves, and Rob Esgro took it home -- making 6 saves in the second half. Quintin Campbell led the way with 3 goals, while four other players finished with two goals (Salvaggio, Garno, Burke and Holmes). Jack Leary, Mac Costin, Avi Mehl and Teddy Malone each added 1 goal apiece.

Loss 12-11 (OT)

The Fords dropped a heartbreaker to visiting St. Anthony's, 12-11 in overtime. Sage Garito stood on his head and recorded 15 saves, 7 of which came in the first quarter. Adam Salvaggio had 4 goals/1 assist, three players had two goals (Costin, Glavin and Garno). Brennan McBride had 1 goal/3 assists.

The Fords made it back from prom on Saturday and drove back up to Long Island on Sunday morning to participate in the final game of the Geico Showcase, defeating Lincoln-Sudbury 11-8.

Win 6-5

Haverford defeated defending National Champion Ward Melville 6-5, in the first game of the Geico Invitaional at St. Anthony's HS (NY).

Sage Garito recorded 8 saves, while Peter Garno led the way with 4 goal/1assist. Mac Costin (1g) scored the game winner with 14 seconds remaining. Geordy Holmes was the other goal scorer for the Fords.

Win 14-11

Peter Garno led the way for the Fords who defeated visiting IMG Academy 14-11. Garno exploded for 7 goals on the afternoon. Other goal scorers were Salvaggio (2g), Burke (1g/1a), Leary (2g), Holmes (1g), Niggeman (1g). Brennan McBride and Pearse Glavin each chipped in two assists.
