Mike’s interest in photography dates to his boyhood in Drexel Hill where he first experienced film photography using a box camera he won for selling the most Easter eggs in his Cub Scout Pack’s annual fundraising event. As an undergraduate at Trinity College he was an avid user of the school’s darkroom where he developed black and white prints of photographs taken during concert choir tours in England and Puerto Rico, as well as a senior year history major trip to Russia. After serving for many years as the family photographer, upon retirement as an aerospace industry executive in 2011 Mike turned to his longstanding interest in photography in earnest.
An avid outdoorsman, Mike’s hiking, backpacking, cycling, and cross-country skiing activities have led him to many attractive photography subjects in nature. Travel in recent years to the Caribbean, Cuba, England, France, Ireland, and Italy, as well as throughout the United States, has resulted in a rich portfolio of cultural images, architecture, street photography, vehicles old and new, and abstracts.

Mike is a member of the North Bethesda Camera Club where he has participated in club competitions and in the many club field trips. Mike was one of the featured photographers in the “Viewfinders: Eight Photographers”, Hill Center Galleries exhibit in March/April 2018 in Washington, DC with his “Four Seasons in the C&O Canal National Park” exhibit. He was also selected for an entry in The Hill Center Galleries juried photography show. He also participated in the 2018 Haverford School Arts Festival, and in the Kenwood Country Club Member Art Show last fall. Earlier this year he had three photographs on display in the Maryland State Capitol in Annapolis. Examples of his photography currently are on permanent display at Kenwood Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
Mike is very grateful for the scholarship opportunity that The Haverford School provided him, and for the Haverford School education that encouraged engagement in a broad array of topics and interests. His Haverford education afforded him the foundation for a rewarding professional career, and also the intellectual curiosity and discipline to pursue a range of activities beyond his work commitments. For this generosity on the part of the School of over fifty years ago he will be eternally grateful.
Mike was featured in the spring 2016 issue of Haverford School Today. Read his Profile in Service >
