Lower School Student Support

Each boy has an individual profile of characteristics, talents, abilities and challenges.

Differences in predisposition, learning, and development make each student unique. Through differentiation, we help each boy achieve his best. The Lower School Support Team helps strengthen some of the boys' key abilities.

The mission of the Support Team is to provide information, guidelines, and tools designed to support student learning and positive social/emotional development.
The Lower School Support Team collaborates with teachers. Together, they implement best teaching practices and support the students’ individual learning styles.

Counseling

Mrs. Barrett works with a number of boys and families on a range of issues. She aids with conflict resolution, self expression, coping skills, social skills, anger management, along with other social, emotional, and behavioral areas.

Speech and Language

A representative from the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit works with boys in grades 1-5 to improve speech articulation and expressive language skills. Mrs. Cindy Weissman, our Speech and Language Consultant, collaborates with teachers. With her consultation, teachers follow best practices in instructional strategies for expressive and receptive language skills.

Lower School Dean of Students

As Dean of Students, Mr. Brown oversees discipline in the division. He works with students, teachers, and families when students err or when they do not follow the rules. Additionally, Mr. Brown teaches 5th grade Decision Education. This course integrates decision-making skills and character education.
