Donald A. Borkland '68

Donald “Don, Donny” Borkland, 70, of Wexford, PA died peacefully on Monday morning, August 16th, 2021. He was born September 5, 1950; son of late Leonard A. Borkland and Margaret M. Borkland. He grew up in Villanova, PA and spent countless summers in Avalon, NJ as a lifeguard. Most of his beach days were consumed by fishing, sailing, boating, water skiing, building sand sculptures, and spending time with family and friends. Don graduated from Syracuse University and served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. Don was an avid golfer and previous member of St. David’s Country Club and Shannopin Country Club. He had fond memories of playing baseball with the Main Line Jaycees. He also had a love of “doodling”, building boat models, and doing crossword puzzles. Most of his career was spent in real estate banking. After Don’s retirement in 2015 as Senior VP of Commercial Real Estate at BB&T Bank, he and his devoted wife of 47 years, Kathy, retired to Oak Island, NC and enjoyed watching boats on the inland waterway. He loved, and was very proud of, his family and friends. Don will be lovingly remembered by those he left behind. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Sloan Borkland of Wexford, PA, and his 2 daughters, Sloan Curren and husband Michael of Gibsonia, PA, and Megan Batykefer and husband, David of Pittsburgh, PA. Additionally he is survived by 6 beloved grandchildren- Kathryn, Ryan, Michael, Jacob, Molly, and Matthew; and sister Cherrill Borkland of Woodbine, NJ. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 5:30-9pm at Altmyer Park, Wexford, PA, 15090. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation, Inc.
