Preparing Boys for Life

Soccer program partners with local charity to promote social change and raise funds for area children

This summer, The Haverford School soccer program partnered with the Starfinder Foundation, an organization that provides field space, training, and tutoring for children in the Philadelphia area. The team raised $1,750 for Philadelphia youth soccer players.

“The goal of this partnership is to create a world where the playing field is level and all kids are thriving,” explained Dan Keefe, Director of Soccer Program and Upper School English teacher at The Haverford School.

During the summer months, the Fords soccer team focused their time and talents on community outreach. While the program was unable to hold their annual soccer camp due to COVID-19 restrictions, the team found other ways to support the organization. In collaboration with the Starfinder Foundation, during the month of July, the boys raised funds mostly through the support of their families and coaches.

“Soccer players think the world should resemble the beautiful game,” said Keefe. “When the ball finds the back of the net, the team rejoices because they know that every pass, every run, every tackle led to a moment of transcendence. From one soccer family to another, let's move the ball and find a way to make the miraculous, real.”
