AP grad Hunter takes over Haverford School track program

Academy Park graduate and track and field coach Ron Hunter was hired as the next director of track and field at The Haverford School this week.

"I am excited for Coach Hunter to take over the track and field program at the School," Director of Athletics Mike Murphy said in a statement. “Coach Hunter has a unique ability to push his athletes to be their best selves both on and off the track. This, combined with his competitiveness, make him an outstanding addition to The Haverford School’s athletic programs.”

Hunter was recently the track and field coach at his alma mater. Under his guidance, Academy Park's 4 x 800 indoor relay team competed in the state championship last year. Hunter's athletes broke 15 of the school’s individual and relay records.

"I look forward to taking over a program with such a strong reputation and continuing to build it into one of the top programs in the area,” Hunter said.

Hunter was a standout athlete in football and track and field at Academy Park and Cheyney University. He holds Cheyney's indoor program record in the 55-meter dash and ran the lead leg in the 4x100 relay that won a state championship in 2006 for AP.
