Preparing Boys for Life

The passing of retired faculty member Michael F. Mayock

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of beloved teacher, coach and mentor, Mr. Michael F. Mayock. Mike was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Susanne T. Mayock, and their daughter, Mary Ellen. The Mayock family members including children Mike, Jr. '76, Molly, Mark '80, Dan '82, Pete '83, Ellen, and Matt '85, have been involved and invested members of The Haverford School community. All are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

For 26 years at The Haverford School, Mike taught Middle School mathematics and coached varsity football, varsity golf, and Middle School squash. Many of his students, players, and fellow coaches became lifelong friends, a testament to Mike’s devotion to his craft and to the people in his path. Equally proud of the lives he most positively impacted in the classroom and in the hallways as on the field, Mike was inducted into Haverford's Hall of Fame in 2011 including highlights of 49 Varsity Football victories and two undefeated Inter-Ac championship teams (1970 & 1971) and a 56-game winning streak as a 20-year coach of Middle School Squash.

Due to the pandemic, an in-person memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. We also plan to commemorate Coach Mayock at a future event or game on campus as guidelines permit. Read the full obituary here >
