Rhonda Brown began as Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in early July. Brown comes to The Haverford School from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and has a long career working at large research institutions, including the University of Notre Dame and Temple University, and small private liberal arts colleges like Albright College and the College of the Holy Cross.
Brown’s 25 year career includes working as a bias identifier with the Massachusetts Testing Association, and serving on the Diversity Committee for two Massachusetts governors. Brown also developed a certificate program in diversity leadership for Temple University’s College of Education.
During the interview process, Brown met with several members of the community, including the Diversity Alliance, a student leadership group that works closely with the School’s leadership teams.
“I have worked with a lot of students in my career, but I’ve never been more impressed than I was with the young men who interviewed me,” said Brown. “They were inquisitive, thoughtful, and clearly ready to change the world.”
Brown will not only work closely with the Diversity Alliance, but with all of the School’s departments. She will support the School’s journey toward mutual respect and celebration of all students, families, faculty and staff, and alumni.
"We as a community are so fortunate to have Rhonda in this leadership role, and will benefit every day from her experience, expertise, passion, and wonderful sense of humor," said Head of School Tyler Casertano. "I am excited to work alongside her to continue the work of making Haverford a more diverse, vibrant, and equitable community where every boy feels comfortable bringing his full self to school each day."
