Meet our Head of School

Welcome to The Haverford School! While we hope our website helps educate you about who we are and what we do, we also hope that you will consider visiting our campus to experience our community and culture firsthand. Because while Haverford offers world class programming, enjoys first rate facilities, and has extraordinary teachers and learners, ultimately what defines Haverford—what makes this such a special place—is what it feels like to be a part of our community.

There is a joyfulness here; a palpable and powerful energy that stems from the relationships that underpin everything we do. Those relationships—between our students, between our students and faculty, and between the students and the curriculum—encourage and empower our students to engage in ways they otherwise wouldn’t. They try new experiences. They interact with new people. They encounter new perspectives and ideas. In embracing the unfamiliar and uncomfortable, our students grow in profound ways, and become not just their best selves, but a version of themselves that they might not have ever known existed before. In this way, our boys leave us transformed and prepared for life.

So much of that transformation, of that alchemy, comes from our identity as a boys school, and from the permission our community gives boys to engage in ways that might feel unavailable to them outside of Haverford; to dance and sing, to be outwardly compassionate and empathetic, to reflect and share, to be vulnerable, to give support and to ask for support, to set high standards for themselves.

There has never been a more important or exciting time to be a boys school and to teach boys how to navigate our rapidly changing and increasingly complicated world. We need men of character, intellect, and compassion who will transform the world, and I am thrilled to lead an institution dedicated to that charge.

I hope to see you on campus soon and to have the opportunity to get to know your family and to talk more about why Haverford is such a remarkable community.

About Tyler Casertano

Tyler Casertano joined our community as Head of School in July of 2021.

He brings with him varied experiences in educational institutions, from his time as a leader at St. Albans School to his childhood spent on independent school campuses.

At St. Albans School, a school for boys in grades 4-12 in Washington, D.C., Tyler had experience serving as the Assistant Head of School for Advancement and Strategy and as the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. Tyler oversaw the development, admissions, and communications offices, informed by his experiences managing the school’s financial aid budget, running the school’s accreditation review process, and leading the school’s strategic planning process. He sat on the Governing Board’s Diversity Committee, Finance Committee, Development Committee, and Strategic Planning Committee. In addition to his leadership roles at St. Albans, Tyler taught a ninth-grade ancient history course, served as an upper school advisor, and coached the varsity lacrosse team. His accolades include St. Albans School's Hall-Hoffman Award, given annually to an exemplary teacher-coach, and two University of Chicago’s Excellence in Teaching Awards.

Tyler attended Yale College, where he majored in history and played lacrosse, and holds a master’s degree in Private School Leadership from the Klingenstein Center at Columbia University’s Teachers College. Tyler joins the Haverford School community alongside his wife, Annie, who works in real estate development, and their two young children.
