Upper School art and science departments collaborate to create light boxes

In a partnership between the Upper School art and science departments, students created illuminated light boxes, now on display in the Severinghaus Library.

Upper School Digital Art II teacher Kristin Brown tasked her students with telling a story through the design of their light boxes, inspired by light boxes designed for children's books. They digitally designed the boxes in Adobe Illustrator and then used a laser cutter to create the layers in their designs, incorporating concepts of depth and perspective. Upper School physics teacher helped the students solder the lights, illuminating their designs. Upper School librarians then paired the boxes with books and created a display.
