Middle School music ensembles take top honors at Music in the Parks

Middle School music ensembles take top honors at Music in the Parks

The Middle School singing ensembles received several accolades during their performances at Music in the Parks at Six Flags in mid-May. The ensembles were led by Middle School music teacher John Stroud.

The Centennial Singers took first place and Overall Best Middle School Choir. Their score of 94.5 was the highest out of all participating choirs, including the high school-level ensembles.

The Celebrantes also had a strong showing, securing second place with a score of 91.5. Both groups were given a rating of “superior,” which is the highest level given by the judges.

Individually, Form I student Mookie received an award for Outstanding Soloist at the contest.

The judges, both of whom have extensive background as professional singers, directors, and teachers, rated the performers on several criteria, including tone quality, intonation, diction and pronunciation, note accuracy/rhythmic precision, and musicality. The students performed technically complex pieces, with the Centennial Singers performing a 3-4 part harmony and the Celebrantes performing a 5-6 part a capella harmony.
