THE BROWNLOW SOCIETY
For many of us, Brownie embodied the spirit of
Haverford because of his passion for teaching and connecting with boys,
particularly by sharing his insights on the historical events he
witnessed firsthand. As he told his students, 'You can’t appreciate the
history of Europe in the 20th Century if you don’t know the smell of
gunpowder.'
– David Ford '93, Michael Lewis '99, Nash Waterman '98
Donald Brownlow, who taught at the School for more than 50 years until
the day of his death in January of 2006, was an inspiration for many a
Haverfordian. The School founded the Brownlow Society for young alumni who honor "Brownie" through their generous gifts to the Haverford Fund.
To qualify, alumni must have graduated within the past 15 years and give a minimum of $125 to The Haverford Fund. Young
alumni who give at the leadership level of $500 or more receive a
special gift in honor of Mr. Brownlow.
Your gift to the
Brownlow Society ensures that Haverford will stay at the forefront of
boys’ education, and continue to attract and retain faculty of the
highest caliber - faculty like Mr. Brownlow.
