Wrestling: Haverford School falls to Glen Mills; Beast of the East wrapup (Wrestling - V)

Haverford School lost to Glen Mills, 40-34, on Dec. 20. For the Fords, Dylan Anderson earned a pin at 120 pounds; Nick Gallo won a major decision at 138; Vincent Bellwoar got a first-period pin at 145; Ronald Tassoni earned a first-period pin at 182; and L.J. Barlow earned a 36-second pin at 195.

Host Fords win McBride Classic basketball tournament (Basketball - V)
December 18, 2011
Sema’j Reed paired 13 points with 11 rebounds as the host Fords (6-2) won the championship game of the McBride Classic, defeating Frankford 62-52.
Sammy Foreman tallied a game-high 23 points, and Ray Hollman (7 points, 5 assists) and Zach Thomas (six points, five assists) also helped Haverford School’s cause. -
Toys for Tots campaign a success

IV Former Jake Cohen, along with Student Service Board, organized the ninth all-school annual toy collection for children under 10 years of age for the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots campaign that benefits needy children.

Third-graders hold toy sale for St. Barnabas
December 14, 2011
Third-graders held a gently used toy sale Dec. 13 for their service learning project. They brought in toys, books, board games, and more, and sold the items to Lower School students, faculty, and staff. The boys priced everything and raised $1,241.43. They donated the money to St. Barnabas, a shelter for homeless mothers and children.

Matt Luminais won two events, including setting a School record in the 100 breast, to lead the Fords. Connor O’Prey won the 200 free and 400 free, while Andrew Helber took home wins in the 50 free, 100 free and two relays.

VI Former Dave Harris is Main Line Student of the Week

Dave Harris, a senior, received second-place honors in the Philadelphia Young Playwrights Festival for his play, “How to Make a Celebrity Comeback.” He is captain of several of the School’s organizations, including the Community Awareness group, the Diversity Alliance team, and the debate and speech team. Checking for Cancer Benefits Kimmel Center (Lacrosse - V)

Proceeds from the 2011 Checking for Cancer Lacrosse Tournament were donated to the Kimmel Cancer Center on Dec. 9. The tournament was held April 16, and was hosted by The Haverford School.
