We are proud to share this great distinction. Achieving the Gold level of LEED certification demonstrates The
Haverford School's long-term commitment to environmental stewardship and
social responsibility.
– Joseph T. Cox, Ph.D., Headmaster
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the preeminent program for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. Haverford was officially awarded LEED Gold certification for our Upper School building in September, 2010. This designation was established by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and has been verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).
LEED promotes sustainable building and development practices through a suite of rating systems that recognize projects that implement strategies for better environmental and health performance. LEED certified buildings:
- Lower operating costs and increase value
- Reduce waste sent to landfills
- Conserve energy and water
- Reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions
- Maximize natural light
- Guarantee excellent air quality
- Level temperatures to provide a healthier environment
