Affording a Haverford Education
A Haverford School education is an investment in your child's future. It is also a significant financial commitment. The Haverford School understands this and is committed to making its educational opportunities available to families regardless of their financial resources.
The Haverford School has a tuition assistance fund available to help families defray the cost of an independent school education. These financial resources come from tuition, endowments, and gifts to the School.
In order to sustain superior programs, faculty, and facilities, The Haverford School provides families with a variety of financing options, including payment plans, loans, and tuition assistance. The Haverford School strives to build a financial partnership between your family and the School, and through our Admissions and Business Offices, we offer financial planning services for families.

Tuition Assistance
Tuition assistance is available to families who demonstrate need.
In the past year, we met 100% of demonstrated need as determined by the
Tuition Assistance Committee. We do not offer athletic or academic
scholarships. Grants are allocated according to the School and Student Services (SSS)
protocols for assessing the financial needs of a family; the majority
of aid is given to students in the upper grades.
Tuition Assistance Policies & Application Process
Tuition Assistance Policy
The overriding purpose of the tuition assistance program at The Haverford School is to provide access to qualified students who would otherwise be unable to attend for financial reasons. The School is committed to socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, geographic, and religious diversity within its student body.
The School supports an extensive need-based tuition assistance program. All grants are funded by the School. Athletic and academic scholarships and merit awards are not offered at The Haverford School. Grants are made only to students who qualify for aid on the basis of financial need, and who, in the School's judgment, are able to make significant contributions to school life through their academic accomplishments, talents, and personal attributes. The Haverford School adheres to the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Principles of Good Practice for Financial Aid, as approved June 1992.
Parental Responsibility
It is the parent’s responsibility to complete the tuition assistance file. The primary responsibility for financing a student’s independent school education rests with the family. This noted, The Haverford School’s tuition assistance program makes every effort to help all eligible applicants. Decisions are influenced by the availability of School resources, the number of qualified applicants, and overall budgetary constraints. At times, there have been insufficient funds to meet the needs of all accepted students who qualify for tuition assistance.
Standards
- The School requires appropriate standards of behavior and academic performance from all its students.
- The School requires appropriate support of parents.
Grades Served
Students in all grades are eligible for tuition assistance, although the majority of funds are allocated to students in the upper grades.
Priority for Tuition Assistance
Priority for tuition assistance is given to families who meet the deadlines set by the Tuition Assistance Committee.
Confidentiality
The Haverford School safeguards the confidentiality of all financial information supplied by applicants, and consistent with this, the School does not publicly identify recipients of tuition assistance.

Tuition assistance decisions are made on an annual basis, and we ask that families reapply for assistance each year. The Tuition Assistance Committee then reevaluates student grants. Grant amounts may vary, depending on changes in a family’s financial situation. In addition, it is the responsibility of the tuition assistance recipient to maintain appropriate grades and conduct in school.
