The Process

Overview

Students are assigned a college counselor in the middle of their Form IV (Sophomore) year. Together, the student, counselor, and family explore the decision-making process. In addition to a series of individual meetings with their counselor, students also attend weekly "college seminar" classes during their Form V (Junior) year, where they are introduced to the various pieces of the selection process.

Haverford also hosts a number of evening programs, with the School's own college counselors and some college admissions officers. Each year, more than 75 college admissions representatives visit Haverford to meet with our students.

Form III

Your Form III year at Haverford is an exciting time. You will need to adjust to new expectations in the Upper School, with more difficult classes and a wider array of activities and opportunities.

Working hard in your classes and doing as well as possible is your most important task, but you should also begin your involvement in clubs, organizations, and sports that seem interesting to you. Aim to find meaningful ways to spend your free time, whether at school or off campus; high school should be your focus now – not college.

Commit yourself to your classes and your school, and challenge yourself to get involved; if you do this, you will truly make the most out of every opportunity available to you at Haverford, you will have a wonderful experience here, AND you will have prepared yourself well for life after Haverford.

Visit campuses and interview. Speak with college coaches, if necessary.

This is the easiest time for you to see colleges. During the school year it is often difficult to find time to schedule visits and interviews around your senior year academic and athletic responsibilities.

If you are considering particular colleges or programs because of a specialized interest or talent, use the summer months to gain greater exposure in the field.  Expand your interest and experiences.
