Suggested Standardized Testing Schedule

The college counselors work with each student to design a standardized test plan that best suits their strengths and the requirements of their potential colleges. Listed below is a typical testing plan for Haverford students.

SAT/ACT Testing Timeline

Form III

We do not encourage Form III students to take any standardized tests.

Form IV

PSAT in October. Sophomore scores will not go to colleges, nor will they enter you in the National Merit Scholarship Competition.

Some students sit for the SAT Subject Tests in June in Chemistry. If you are enrolled Chemistry, are a strong test taker, and would like to take the test, please speak to your Chemistry teacher. If you are planning on studying engineering in college, you should take the Chemistry SAT Subject Test.

We do no encourage Form IV students to take the SAT.

Form V

PSAT in October. You will be automatically registered for the PSAT. These scores will enter you in the National Merit Scholarship Competition, but will not be sent to colleges.

Plan on taking the SAT in January, March, or May, or the ACT in February, April, or June. Register at www.collegeboard.com or www.actstudent.org. Most students take the SAT for the first time in January or March of Form V. Most students take the SAT twice in the Form V year.

By the time you finish your Form V year, you should have taken at least two, maybe three, SAT Subject tests. Many colleges ask for two Subject Tests, and a handful require three. The best time to take the Subject Tests is in June (registration deadline in May). Tests are available in the following subjects:
Math Level I, Math Level II (Pre-Calculus and above), Biology, Physics, Chemistry, U.S. History, World History, Literature, Chinese, French, Spanish, German, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, Korean, and Japanese.

Form VI

Retake the SAT and/or SAT Subject Tests in October, November, or December.

Retake the ACT Test in September, October, or December.

Early Action/Early Decision testing should be completed by October.

SAT Language with Listening Subject Tests are available only in November.

Colleges will look at your highest SAT Critical Reading, Math, and Writing scores, even if these are achieved on different test dates.

January test dates are the last dates available to you for Regular Decision college applications.
